Nashville’s neighbor to the southeast is growing at an unprecedented rate. As of 2012, the population was nearly 110,000 people, with a growth rate of over 48% since the year 2000. Though many have relocated to the area because of its proximity to Music City, Murfreesboro has plenty of draw all on its own. With awards like “Manliest City” under its belt several years running, as well as excellent schools, plenty of shopping, and a quaint downtown square, Murfreesboro has plenty to offer new residents.
History of Murfreesboro
Murfreesboro is steeped in rich history. Did you know it once served as the state capital between 1818 and 1826? That’s a lofty title, even if Nashville did receive the permanent honor. The city’s namesake was also a Revolutionary War hero, Colonel Hardy Murfree. The Civil War played out on battlegrounds all across the city, including the Battle of Stones River, one of the bloodiest in the war. Nashville and Franklin often get the spotlight for Middle Tennessee’s illustrious history, but Murfreesboro should never be discounted.
The city sprawls over several square miles, offering plenty of room for current residents and those hoping to move here. You’ll find homes filled with history and charm—those from the Civil War and even before, and you’ll see brand new neighborhoods with houses of the highest quality and elegance, and then there’s absolutely everything in between. Mid-century ranch-style homes, craftsman-style bungalows, cottages, plantation homes, the split-level ranches of the 1970s, and today’s contemporary and traditional styles line the wide, safe streets of the city and welcome everyone home.
